this painting didn’t actually start as a vegan statement. It came from another painting of mine featuring a sleeping rabbit. A few people told me it looked less like he was sleeping on a record player and more like he was lying in a frying pan.

I’ve always found it interesting how other people can see things in your work that you never intended. Sometimes even criticism can become part of the next idea.

The title came afterwards: Cute with Fur, Food Without It. There’s something uncomfortable about seeing a little rabbit peacefully sleeping among food, as if he could be part of the meal. He looks too soft, too alive, too innocent to imagine eating him. Something’s that after all is very ordinary.
