This painting came from a reference photo that looked like it had been taken sometime in the ’70s. There was something about it that felt strangely deep to me, like you could look at it and come away with a completely different story every time.

I saw humor in it, but also loneliness, desire and resistance. To me, it feels a little like two people who speak completely different languages when it comes to love wanting each other, but not quite knowing how to reach one another.

Like two hearts tied together from a distance.
